"Working Principles in a New World - Rule 2: "Embrace all expectations placed on you"

When taking the lead in a group without an official position, you will face immense pressure and expectations from everyone. They expect you - in the role of an initiator and idea proposer - to take responsibility for the project's success.

This means you need to:

  1. Set the right direction: Provide a vision and a suitable strategy based on a deep understanding of the market and customers. Stay updated on new trends to adjust promptly if necessary.

  2. Motivate everyone to participate: Inspire with genuine enthusiasm, share success stories, and highlight development opportunities for each team member. Encourage input, autonomy, and the courage to think and act.

  3. Handle difficulties and challenges: Remain calm and insightful in problem analysis. Mobilize the collective intelligence of the team to find effective, feasible solutions. Be ready to adapt flexibly when necessary.

  4. Ensure progress and results: Break down big goals into specific steps. Develop a reasonable plan and allocate resources appropriately. Supervise implementation and regularly assess results to proactively respond.

  5. Bear the consequences of failure: Even though you don't manage directly, in the role of an initiator, you must be ready to take responsibility if the project fails, to protect the reputation and job opportunities of your team members.

To meet these "heavy" expectations, you need to build trust from the beginning by:

  • Clearly share the vision and reasons behind each decision so that everyone understands where you are heading.

  • Communicate regularly to listen to thoughts, questions, and provide timely answers.

  • Stay calm, confident, and ready to face difficulties.

  • Be fair and transparent in handling tasks and treating every team member.

  • Be considerate and supportive once committed.

Additionally, another important issue to note is the balance between work pressure and personal life. Spend time with family and friends; take care of your health and engage in activities you love to avoid excessive stress. A relaxed and composed mindset will help you handle work more effectively.

By consistently implementing these actions, people will gradually recognize and respect you as a genuine leader. This will unite everyone to support and accompany you, bringing success to both the team and the project.
